Learn about a very unique pioneer cemetery nested in one of the last original prairie lands in Illinois.
Will County is home to Vermont Cemetery Preserve. A small Illinois State Nature Preserve due to its
rare plants that have never been touched by a plow or grazed by livestock. As all the lands around were
plowed for farming, but this tiny pioneer cemetery saved this virgin prairie from ruination. In this
program learn about why Illinois is called the Prairie State, why Vermont Cemetery Preserve is so
unique, and about the lives of the early settlers who are buried there.
